COMPOSITION C, C-2, AND C-3
Composition
Composition C is a mixture of hexane and plasticizer. Composition C-2 is a mixture of hexane, nitrocellulose and a plasticizer that does not contain tetryl. Composition C-3 is a mixture of hexane, nitrocellulose, plasticizer, and tetryl.
Melting point
Does not have a sharp melting point.
Solubility
Soluble in dimethylformamide.
Toxicity
Composition C-3 is toxic and can cause dermatitis; the fumes of the explosion are poisonous.
Application
The explosive substance is used as the main charge of the explosive substance in the ammunition. Can be used underwater.
Note
Possible manifestation of exudation when stored at room temperature, but does not lose sensitivity to initiation. It is moderately hygroscopic, but not affected by moisture. Composition C-3 does not react with aluminum and mild steel. Slightly reacts with brass and copper. Composition C-3 ignites easily and burns with an intense flame. When burned in large quantities, the heat released may cause an explosion.
