The M557 fuse is a mechanical fuse designed for use in artillery shells and mortar rounds. It is widely used with 155-mm high-explosive fragmentation shells. The M557 has an instant-fuse function, which allows it to destroy targets on direct impact, and is also capable of delayed-action operation.
